The information provided on this site is intended to provide helpful information, however is not meant to be used to diagnose or treat any medical condition, and should not replace the advice given by your Qualified Integrative Oncology practitioner. You should always consult your Integrative Oncologist before making any dietary and lifestyle changes. MIOG and it's staff members are not responsible for any consequences from any treatment or application of these recommendations. References of information are available on request.

Your obligations

Privacy Policy - MIOG takes your privacy seriously.

Our practice is committed to best practice in relation to the management of information we collect. This practice has developed a policy to protect patient privacy in compliance with privacy legislation.

Our policy is to inform you of:

the kinds of personal information that we collect and hold; how we collect and hold personal information; the purposes for which we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information;
how you may access your personal information and seek the correction of that information;  how you may complain about a breach of the Australian Privacy Principles and how we will deal with such a complaint; whether we are likely to disclose personal information to overseas recipients;

What kinds of personal information do we collect?

The type of information we may collect and hold includes personal information about:

  • Your name, address, date of birth, email and contact details
  • Your health information and other sensitive information

How do we collect and hold personal information?

We will generally collect personal information:

  • from you directly when you provide your details to us;
  • from a person responsible for you
  • from third parties where the Privacy Act or other law allows it

Why do we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information?

In order to proceed with treatment, we require your consent to collect personal information about you for the primary purpose of providing quality health care. We require your personal details and a full medical history so that we may properly assess, diagnose and treat illnesses and be pro-active in your health care.

We may use your information in the following ways:

* Administrative purposes.
MIOG is required to keep medical records of consultations for medico-legal purposes;

* Billing purposes.
Including compliance with private health funds;

* Disclosure to other medical or allied health care members.
(including discussion at MIOG multi-disciplinary meetings to discuss patient cases for the purpose of joint collaboration and staff training) only with the explicit permission of the patient.

No patient information is ever disclosed to any other medical or allied practitioners or health care members outside of MIOG without the specific written request & permission from the patient. In most circumstances it is MIOG requesting copies of patient records from other healthcare providers and this is only done at the patient's signed approval via a completed Authority to Release Medical Information Form.

* Disclosure for quality assurance activities.

Patient files may be viewed internally by MIOG's Director or Practice Manager for the purposes of quality review if required.

How can you access and correct your personal information?

Subject to the exceptions set out in the Privacy Act, you may seek access to and correction of the personal information which we hold about you in accordance with our access policy. If a fee is charged for providing access, you will be advised of the cost in advance. The contact person in this practice is the Practice Manager.

How can you make a privacy related complaint?

We will take reasonable steps to protect the security of your information and comply with our legal obligations. Our staff are trained and required to respect your privacy. We take reasonable steps to protect information held from misuse and loss and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. If you have any questions about privacy-related issues or wish to complain about a breach of the Australian Privacy Principles or the handling of your personal information by us, please contact our Privacy Officer. You may lodge your complaint in writing. Any complaint will be investigated by the Privacy Officer and you will be notified of the making of a decision in relation to your complaint as soon as is practicable after it has been made, usually within 30 days.

Are we likely to disclose your personal information overseas?

We may disclose your personal information to the following overseas recipients:
any practice or individual who assist us in providing services (such as where you have come from overseas and had your health record transferred from overseas or have treatment continuing from an overseas provider) anyone else to whom you authorise us to disclose it; and anyone else where authorised by law.

Updates to this Policy

This Policy will be reviewed from time to time to take account of new laws and technology, changes to our operations and other necessary developments.

Patient Behaviour Policy

To help make our Clinic a safe place for everyone, MIOG has a Zero Tolerance approach to any verbal, aggressive or violent behaviour towards our staff or other patients.

Patient aggression and violence covers a wide spectrum of behaviours and actions, including, but not limited to:

  • verbal aggression (including rudeness, yelling, swearing) in person, over the phone or via Zoom;
  • intimidation and threats;
  • abusive letters, phone calls or emails;
  • online trolling including Google Reviews;
  • threatening or inappropriate body language.

Unacceptable patient behaviour will be immediately referred to the Practice Manager and Clinic Director for review. As a result, the following outcomes may be chosen:

  • giving the patient a formal warning;
  • placing the patient on an Acceptable Behaviour Agreement;
  • discontinuing care for the patient at MIOG.
